The game director of MultiVersus confirmed that the hitboxes will receive a “big overhaul.” Tony Huynh tweeted about a new online update that fixes bugs impacting several of Jake and Tom & Jerry’s actions. The developer Warner Bros. has significant plans for upgrading the hit system in MultiVersus, as you can see from Tony Huynh’s comment below.
What’s the Plan for MultiVersus Hitboxes/Hurtboxes System?
One follower expressed concern that Finn’s moves appeared to breach opponents’ defenses too readily and inquired if Finn would receive a nerf in the future. In response, Huynh said that Finn would be modified, but it would happen gradually because the team was also working on a wider redesign of the hitbox/hurtbox system. “We’ll be looking at Finn in sections,” Huynh tweeted. “We are working on a big overhaul of our hitbox/hurtbox system, so don’t want too many moving parts.”
Hitboxes in fighting games refer to how the game decides if an opponent character will be caught in an attack and how far it will go. In a fighting game, each strike has a predefined hitbox that determines where it will fall. If an opponent’s character happens to be in the hitboxes, they will be hit. The two critical elements of a Multiversus hit detection system are hitboxes and hurtboxes.
Huynh also mentions that Finn will undergo certain adjustments, though he doesn’t specify what these alterations include. Further development on additional characters isn’t a surprise because MultiVersus‘ expansive roster has already seen a good amount of alterations since its July launch, including the Taz’s Tornado move receiving a nerf.
On the other hand, the release of Morty from Rick & Morty and MultiVersus Season 1 was scheduled for August 9. However, earlier this week, it was announced that Morty and its Season 1 has been delayed, and a new release date has still not been determined.
