A Florida mom speaks out after witnessing children bullying her autistic son as he tried to enjoy a swim in the pool. The mom explained that the children were telling her son to move and mocking him when he didn’t understand.
The woman lives in Orlando, Florida, and was enjoying a pool day with her son when the incident occurred. The video has been viewed over 2 million times, received thousands of comments, and been liked nearly 280,000 times.
The Florida mom explained that she was trying to be nice while claiming that children were yelling at her son to get out of their way. They wanted to jump into the pool, and when he didn’t understand what they wanted, they allegedly began mocking him. The behavior has left the mom deeply upset, as she stated, “My blood is literally boiling.”
She went to confront the parents about the bullying behavior. In the video, the Florida mom told them, “Your kids have been making fun of my kid.” She explained to them what she witnessed and that her son was autistic. She described the incident as “so wrong on so many levels.” To her, it was deeply unsettling to think that if this was the behavior she witnessed, what happened when she wasn’t there. She blamed the behavior on other parents who “fail to teach their kids about special needs and disabilities.” The video ends with her asking parents to do better.
Other Parents Offer Florida Mom Support
Several with autistic children have commented on the TikTok video, offering the Florida mom their support. One autism mom says, “u handled that well, mama.” Another one says, “I can feel your heart through this screen.” Others are commending her for how she handled the situation. One comment reads, “Thank you so much for saying something to the parents.” However, a few commenters think she should have spoken directly to the children. One says, “I would’ve unfortunately said something to the kids.” Another says, “And you’re sitting there watching it, you can confront Kids and still be respectful.”
The video is getting a lot of attention as the topic of bullying is a sensitive issue, especially when it comes to children with special needs. Several comments are from parents with autistic children who sympathize and relate to her feelings.
It is not known whether or not the other parents spoke to their children about their behavior. However, the Florida mom has sparked a conversation online regarding bullying.
