Being unable to escape the summer heat while trying to sleep is the worst, and one man in upstate New York blames his wife for his suffering. “My wife doesn’t believe in air conditioning,” wrote Reddit user JiveTurkey1983, who posted a photo of his home’s thermostat on r/mildlyinfuriating. The temperature was a sweltering 87F degrees, at 11:45pm allegedly, no less. This husband claims his home has no central A/C; all he and his wife have is a small portable air conditioner.
Besides his wife’s personal belie as a reason, JiveTurkey1983 hasn’t provided much additional context beyond that his partner is “Irish American.” Unrelated ethnicity aside, the husband added that they have placed fans at all their windows. Their house is apparently one that is well insulated to trap heat and hold it throughout the night, understandable for an upstate New York home.
Reddit Showed Little Sympathy for the New York Husband and His A/C Plight
Unfortunately for JiveTurkey1983, he got little sympathy from the thousands of Redditors tuning into his post. Instead, there were plenty who criticized him for putting up with such insufferable conditions in his own home. “Stand up for yourself dude,” sighed a commenter. “I would easily divorce over this,” remarked another.
“Believe it or not, AC does not require belief,” added a third. “That constitutes for insanely infuriating to me. I cannot stand sleeping in a hot room, I actually can’t even do it I’d rather sleep in a bathtub full of cold water,” expressed a fourth.
Hundreds of others shared a similar opinion: this New York husband should be fighting to sleep comfortably instead of complaining about his wife on Reddit. Dozens upon dozens echoed how they would consider divorce over this sort of issue.
It gets worse. According to JiveTurkey1983, the portable A/C isn’t just off at night; it’s off during the day. He shared a picture in the comments of how his home was 93F during the afternoon. At this point, many feel feel as the two are a lost cause. In response to a comment saying one of the two are a fool for putting up with this, one Redditor wrote, “Both. Wife for feeling this way, him for letting her win this argument.”
