A New Jersey shop owner was visited by police and Animal Control. According to him, someone reported his cats to the authorities, accusing him of neglect. That was certainly not the case, and the owner called it a false report.
The sudden visit was posted online by Leo Mastrolia, who runs Digital Doctor Repairs. He has a very popular TikTok account where he routinely shares electronic repair content and client interactions. The attached clip went viral. In less than a day, it garnered 1.7 million views, 238,400 likes, and more than 1,300 comments.
Chronologically, the video starts at around the 23-second mark. Leo is seen talking to a New Jersey police officer, telling him he received a call from Animal Control (AC) about a complaint that he had been mistreating his cats.
Leo began talking about who might have reported him to AC. Later in the video, he suspects his landlord, given that he had a previous heated altercation with him. In a previously shared interaction, the landlord could be heard telling Leo that he wanted to “kill” him and break his head.
As a result, Leo believed his landlord was “more than likely” the one who made the call. The officer told him, “These are tough situations, right? Because anytime somebody makes a complaint, we have no choice but to thoroughly investigate. […] If you feel that he’s making that up and there’s no merit behind that, you also have the right to file complaints for that as well.”
A Cat’s Life
The New Jersey shop owner welcomed the AC officer or investigator to his shop. He showed him his automatic feeder, water fountain, a $800 litter box, and his two cats, right after a dog greeted them both. He also explained his schedule to the AC employee, given that he was accused of leaving the cats alone throughout the weekend.
“I’m here every single day. I work Tuesday through Saturday, and then I’m here Sunday and Monday, regardless,” Leo added.
The AC officer was convinced that there were no issues whatsoever with Leo’s cats. He said, “Those cats are super healthy, beautiful coats. You got the water there, food. And you can tell that the cats aren’t neglected. So I don’t have an issue with the animal control.”
Reactions
The video sparked multiple responses, mostly from viewers who knew Leo was taking good care of his cats. One said, “Bro showed him a super fat cat, and he was done.” Another one commented, “$800 litter…. Those cats are the 1%.“
Others, fully aware of Leo’s previous confrontation with his landlord, targeted the one responsible, who remains unidentified. One wrote, “It should be public information who made the complaint. And if it’s wrong, they should pay.” Another one added, “Whoever reported him is gonna get what’s coming for them.”
Given the AC officer’s statements, Leo’s cats appear to have a pretty comfy home for the near future.
