New Jersey Woman Left Terrified After Finding Long Worm Crawling on Her Wegmans Carrots: ‘This Is Why I Eat Doritos’

Maybe vegetables aren’t that healthy

It’s not uncommon for people to occasionally find something unexpected in the food they buy, but that doesn’t mean it should ever be considered normal. While some discoveries are merely unpleasant, others are downright disturbing. One New Jersey woman experienced the latter after purchasing a bag of organic carrots from Wegmans.

When she opened the bag, she found an unwelcome surprise inside. Nestled on one of the carrots was a long worm, far from small and very much alive. The woman shared a video showing the carrot placed on a cutting board, with the worm stretched across the top. Part of it could even be seen moving in the air.

Visibly disgusted, she reacted in real time, saying, “I’m gonna vomit,” a response many viewers felt was completely understandable.

The New Jersey woman remained in disbelief as she continued watching the worm move. She pointed out that the carrots were organic, suggesting that this might explain how something like that ended up inside the bag. She then asked a man nearby, presumably her husband, to retrieve the bag from the trash so she could show it to the store.

Once he brought it back, she filmed the label, clearly showing “Wegmans Organic Carrots.” At that point, the woman speculated that the worm might be a live tapeworm. Regardless of what kind of worm it actually was, the discovery was still deeply unsettling. Both she and the man agreed on one thing, saying, “I’m sufficiently grossed out.”

Unsurprisingly, the family decided not to keep the carrots. “Taking these back in the morning. Had to throw away all the produce in that drawer,” the woman wrote in the caption. After posting the video, she later updated viewers, saying she no longer believed it was a tapeworm and now thought it was a horsehair worm instead.

Either way, the experience was enough to make anyone think twice before reaching for another carrot.

People Reacting to the New Jersey Woman Finding the Worm

It’s safe to say that viewers were thoroughly disgusted after watching the New Jersey woman’s video. Finding a worm in food is bad enough, but discovering one that long pushed many people over the edge. Since carrots are generally considered safe and healthy to eat, some commenters jokingly questioned their food choices altogether.

“OH helllllllllll no. Hell no!!!! This is why I eat Doritos,” one person wrote. Another added, “Candy bars don’t have this problem.”

Others pointed out that the carrots were organic, suggesting that was the reason a worm was present. “People not knowing what organic means is hilarious!” one commenter said. The same commenter then suggested that the carrots may not have been thoroughly washed before packaging. Regardless of the explanation, the video was enough to make many viewers rethink what they were willing to eat.

Rather than focusing on the fact that the New Jersey woman found a worm in the food she purchased, some commenters shifted the discussion to debating what kind of worm it actually was. “That is a horsehair worm, and it’s there because the carrots are organic. They don’t use pesticides to kill these things,” one person claimed. Another disagreed, writing, “That actually looks like a Morgellons fiber!”

Others took the discovery as a broader warning about health and diet. “This is why we have to do parasite cleanses. We are the only country that doesn’t do it twice a year, and our health stats are worse. I wonder why,” one commenter wrote.

While opinions varied widely, most people agreed on one thing: the worm was large enough to have been impossible to miss. At the very least, that meant no one accidentally ate it along with the carrots.
