The infamous Capcom Prankster has done it again. Appearing in a video addressing the Warner Brothers Games Summit, Yoshinori Ono had a little bit of fun at our expense.
As can be seen above, Ono is surrounded by Street Fighter paraphernalia, most notably the three Blanka busts and tiny Blanka toy he always carries with him in the foreground. The new stage is set in sunny Brazil. Ryu and Chun-Li are sparring on a road at the top of a small hill surrounded by buildings, colorful walls and smallish cars. There’s much more beautiful scenery in the background, as well.
Then, as we cut back to Ono, he’s wearing a Blanka suit and pondering who the new character might be.
But don’t take this incredibly obvious hint at face value though. As was stated above, Ono is notorious for these kinds of pranks. There are at least two other Brazilian characters in Street Fighter lore that could be associated with this stage. Both of which fans have been waiting for since Street Fighter III: Third Strike. Brazil native, Sean Matsuda and the mysterious resident of the Amazon, Oro.
Street Fighter V was officially announced back in December 2014 during Sony’s PlayStation Experience event. Since then, we’ve had a whirlwind of news and content popping up as we get closer and closer to the launch date. Gameplay seems to be largely the same, but with the obvious tweaks and new super meter systems. 6 characters have been revealed so far, with the biggest reveals being back-from-the-dead Charlie Nash and back-from-obscurity Birdie.
With location tests well underway and progress appearing in leaps and bounds, we can only assume the finished Street Fighter V is going to dominate the tournament circuit and living rooms alike. But… only if you have a PlayStation 4 or PC.
Exclusivity aside. Who do you think the (obvious) new character could be? Who else do you think they’ll add to the roster? Tell us your picks in the comments below. As always, for all the latest on Capcom and Street Fighter, keep those peepers peeled to The Nerd Stash!
