PvE combat is a significant part of New World‘s questline system, with many dangerous mobs and formidable bosses to battle. Alastor the Vigilant is one such boss whom you must defeat during the main storyline quest, “The Ritual.” While fighting him definitely isn’t a walk in the park, many players find getting him to spawn is even more difficult. If Alastor isn’t defeated, the quest cannot progress. This New World guide offers some tips on how to beat Alastor and some advice on what to do if he doesn’t spawn.
How to Beat Alastor the Vigilant in New World
Alastor the Vigilant isn’t too challenging as long as you have melee and ranged weaponry, especially if you’re solo. Take out his Moonshadow Sentinels with melee attacks and fire projectiles at Alastor from a distance so that his close-up attacks don’t drain your HP. It’s easier if a few more players join you since you can rotate attacking and healing.
However, numerous New World players have reported that Alastor doesn’t show up to the Amrine Temple on their first attempt. Two common fixes for this bug are restarting the quest by opening the Journal (J) or exiting the game and logging back in. If those solutions don’t work, the only other option is to sit around and wait for him to spawn.
Some New World players have claimed that Alastor needs time to respawn after being defeated by another player. A YouTube video shows a crowd of Portuguese-speaking players aimlessly sauntering about until the ancient mage boss finally appeared. While this issue is frustrating for many players, keep in mind that New World is still beta. By next month’s full release, all the quest-breaking bugs such as this one should hopefully be ironed out.
New World will be officially released on PC on August 31.
