It’s that time of the year where so many seniors are graduating from high school and college. It’s supposed to be a time of new beginnings. But for one woman, she was shocked when she received a bill from New York University – right after crossing the graduation stage.
Imagine experiencing one of the best times of your life, only to be smacked with a bill. That’s exactly what happened to Jess (@jess1unf1ltered). She was walking the stage for graduation at New York University and all was well; she was feeling happy and proud of herself. However, two minutes after she crossed the stage for graduation, she said she received a bill from the university.
Jess immediately called her loan company to figure out what was happening. Unfortunately, they “couldn’t tell her” what the bill was for. She called several other places, only for none of them to be able to tell her what the charges were. A total of seven people told her they couldn’t give her an explanation for why she was being billed. According to Jess, was despite the fact that she already paid off all her student loans and owed nothing. Now, she says there’s a “diploma hold” on her because she owes this unknown bill.
Jess says the issue is that the university gets away with telling her they want her money. In the meantime, they hold her diploma hostage. But she sounds extremely agitated as she explains, “I paid for my tuition, I paid for my education, I literally completed my classes, I walked the stage, I paid for my own cap and gown. I only got two tickets to graduation because you guys are so broke that you couldn’t get a bigger place. You’re not getting any more money from me.” It sounds like she’s fed up with the greed as she tells the school publicly to “leave her alone.”
Commenters were as baffled as Jess about the unknown bill. One commenter quipped, “Hmm yes give me $500 for idk.” Another commenter stated, “I got a bill after my diploma was already in hand and they’re just gonna have to take it up with god.” Others were shocked that she called the bursar at the school, who handles all things administrative, and even they couldn’t explain things to her. As one commenter mentioned, “First off. If the bursar don’t know what it’s for, then it doesn’t exist.”
Commenters continue to react to Jess’ video. Many tried to offer advice. Others shared how ridiculous it is that she owes a bill even after graduation. It is unknown if Jess received any information or answers, but she seems to be standing her ground.
