Ever since President Trump and RFK Jr. pushed the narrative that Tylenol is somehow linked to autism, the gullible are pushing against its use. Though some people laugh it off knowing it’s just more misinformation, others had the seeds of doubt spread in their minds. According to one New York healthcare provider, everybody is on edge ever since the announcement was made. And now, she’s claiming multiple people in the ER are denying Tylenol and even questioning its safety.

“Working in the ER, and seeing people who are now refusing Tylenol,” said TikTok user Val. “If you don’t have a medical degree, don’t give medical advice,” she argued. When the public hears a claim as serious as Tylenol causing autism, the misinformation causes people to doubt everything. It could push more mothers to turn to other means of pain relief. As Val says, “If you are pregnant, please refrain from using ibuprofen or other NSAIDs” because they might not be safe for pregnant women.

Val states people rely on their news and see it as a reliable place for information. She said people see things like this on the news and then question their medical providers. “The man who is spreading this information is the same man who was telling ya’ll to inject bleach into your veins to get rid of COVID,” Val warned. As one commenter put it: “Literally listen to the people who went to school for this.”

Val said the patient who refused Tylenol today was somebody who was dealing with a pretty high fever. Having a high fever during pregnancy can lead to a lot of complications if it isn’t treated correctly. It can lead to a higher heart rate, oxygen demand, and even impact proper cell division. This is why it’s important to receive prompt treatment, sometimes in the form of acetaminophen, the active ingredient in Tylenol.

“I have a stomach condition so acetaminophen and ibuprofen are rough on my tummy so I normally take Aleve when needed… but this whole fiasco makes me want to buy a bottle of Tylenol out of spite…” shared one commenter.

One commenter even feared the repercussions of Trump’s attack on Tylenol: “This is so frustrating. Once this false information is out there, it will never go away. We’re going to be dealing with this forever I fear,” and I fear the same. It’s the birth of another dangerous conspiracy.
