New York Homeowner Says Squatter Next Door Washed Herself in Their Pool, Then Tried to Enter House: ‘I Feel So Violated’

Might need to drain the pool after that

There’s nothing wrong with feeling bad for the homeless, but it’s an entirely different situation when one trespasses onto one’s property, and in a New York homeowner’s case, bathing themselves. In r/EntitledPeople, Reddit user Ancient_Brick9850 shares her account of a woman who allegedly climbed her 12-foot fence to wash herself in their pool. It goes without saying OP was furious.

Ancient Brick says she caught everything this woman did on her property on camera and called the police. Allegedly, this woman claims to be a squatter in the vacant property next door and didn’t have electricity or water. So, she thought the best place to wash was the neighbor’s private pool, instead of visiting the free community pool a 2-minute walk away. “They have hot showers also,” Ancient Brick added.

Whether it was the close distance of being next door or wanting to take a dip in the pool, Ancient Brick doesn’t clarify the squatter’s reasoning. But she wasn’t too happy about any of it: “Great, thanks for putting your dirt in my water. I feel so violated,” she remarked. “Not only did she do that, but she tried to open my house door and looked through the windows!”

Reddit Criticized the Homeowner For Not Pressing Charges on the Homeless Woman

While it’s not too hard to understand OP’s frustration with an alleged homeless person washing themselves in her pool, Redditors couldn’t grasp what Ancient Brick did afterward. “I didn’t press charges. I will, next time,” she promised, but many felt she did the wrong thing.

“You made a HUGE mistake not pressing charges. You have guaranteed that there will be a next time now,” confidently exclaimed a Redditor. “You’re too lenient on people who need clear boundaries,” agreed another.

“Going from using the pool to trying to enter the house is a huge escalation. Most people would have lost it right there,” chimed in a third, suggesting Ancient Brick get some better security systems for her home. Plenty of others chimed in, saying that OP’s decision to not try and legally punish this homeless woman will only encourage her to attempt another trespass or worse.

Many users were being a little harsh on Ancient Brick, but it was for a valid reason. In her story, she claimed the police “found her on the next street,” not back in the empty property next door. In other words, this squatter is wandering the neighborhood; if she’s bold enough to reportedly wash herself in someone’s pool, then try the owner’s doors, there’s no telling what risk she could pose to others.

It’s not about going Karen mode on a woman in need that most people were upset about. It was about OP avoiding taking the proper steps to protect herself and potentially others.
