A New York subway guitarist unexpectedly got an impromptu backup singer after a woman, who said she recently had ear surgery, started to yell at him while he was riding the downtown A train. The carriage was packed with witnesses to the feud.
The clip, posted on X by Floridap8triot, picks up mid-fight between a man and woman, with the source of their escalation not immediately clear but the yelling already underway. As the camera zooms in on the pair, the man is heard shouting, “Don’t you *expletive* dare.” The woman responds with “Then you have to stop it.”
A second man tries to step in, but she tells him, “Get your hands off of me.” Back to the guy with the guitar, he continues to drive home his point: “I literally got a guitar.”
The woman then looks to the other passengers and asks them to make him turn it down. “Can you make him stop? I had surgery on my *expletive* ear. This is inconsiderate,” she says.
But another woman on the train has another, very different recommendation. The woman who just had the ear surgery shouldn’t be taking the subway at all, she says. She then tells her, “Go call Access-A-Ride.”
The two women then begin to exchange words, the first asking why the second is interfering when she’s not even close to the guitarist. She retorts that the first is a “nuisance” and joins the choir of sound in the noisy carriage.
The guitarist, on the other hand, appears to conclude that ignoring it is the best option. He fetches his guitar and begins playing, breaking into a song and refusing to be silenced. The woman is definitely not prepared to take second fiddle, and begins shrieking along with his song.
For the next few minutes, the train continues with a guitarist playing, a woman screaming at him, with the passengers watching. Even after the train passes another station, neither side is prepared to relinquish. The guitarist stops singing, and the passengers applaud.

Others thought the two actually sounded like a musical duo. “Yooo why they both kinda killed as a duo tho lowkey lmfaoooo,” one viewer wrote. One commenter even suggested they should take their unexpected collaboration further: “They both have good voices. They should find a song the both know and do a duet.”
Another simply declared, “This is peak entertainment.” Some viewers felt the scene was just another ordinary day underground. “I mean… as long as no one is touching anyone this is just classic nyc,” one person commented. Another added, “Never a dull moment on NYC subway.”
One viewer was still trying to understand how the situation got so chaotic, asking, “How do you become this crazy lol.”
New York City permits independent musicians to perform in subway stations without enrolling in the MTA’s Music Under New York program, as long as they comply with the transit system’s regulations. However, there is a restriction: performances are prohibited inside subway cars.
According to Section 1050.6 of the MTA’s Rules of Conduct, artistic performances are allowed in specified public areas of the transit system but do not include subway cars and buses.
