Drivers sometimes do the most outrageous things for convenience or to save time, though what one Dallas trucker did was more obnoxious than dangerous. Reddit user Omg_its_taytay says they pulled into a gas station to refill their car, only to realize their pump was already taken. “Dude at pump next to me using my side and I only realized once I got out,” they remarked in their post on r/mildlyinfuriating.
To no one’s surprise, all the other pumps were occupied, leaving Omg_its_taytay to wait for the truck owner beside them to finish fueling. Fortunately for them, it only took 5-ish minutes before they had the pump to themselves. Still, plenty of people were baffled that someone could be so inconsiderate.
“Is his side out of order, and he didn’t realize it until he pulled up?” questioned a commenter, with over 6K upvoters wondering the same thing. OP responded, recalling that they actually had interacted with the truck driver. “I forget the explanation he gave when he saw me over on the other side. I figured it was something like that,” they remarked.
Reddit Turn on OP Instead of Supporting Their Stance on the Pump Hogger
However, instead of siding with OP, many Redditors felt the point of the subreddit’s post should have been to explain the frustrating incident. “So there was a reason, you just forgot to remember for us. This is the mildly infuriating part of the post…” expressed a user. “Be American and just point out that you need the pump. If he doesn’t understand cordiality, move on,” demanded another.
Countless others chimed in, demanding to know why Omg_its_taytay chose to post a photo and complain instead of confronting the other driver. Instead of agreeing, OP got defensive: “Love how many people are legit mad at me for not starting a confrontation over five minutes of waiting. Or because they think I am complaining or asking for a solution.”
With dozens of downvotes and backlash from other Redditors, Omg_its_taytay concluded that this situation wasn’t worth their time or effort to fight for the pump. “Hence, mildly infuriating. I didn’t even need a reason or an apology. I just wanted gas,” OP wrote.
