Reddit user Solid-Kaleidoscope70 took the concept of ‘it doesn’t hurt to try’ to the next level when they participated in a McDonald’s promotional mail-in campaign with hopeful expectations. From their residence in Michigan, Kaleidoscope said it was a project with their kids, saying, “This could be fun to try and get some actual mail in our mailbox!” Unfortunately for them, what they did receive from McDonald’s was rather disappointing.
“They sent me my self addressed/stamped envelope empty,” Kaleidoscope sighed, clearly discouraged by the result, considering they posted a photo of the empty envelope to r/mildlyinfuriating. For anyone confused, OP says they intially sent in an open, self-addressed and stamped envelope within an envelope addressed to the mail-in address provided by McDonald’s. “It’s how us poors get thrills these days,” they joked.
Reddit Had Suspicions About the Empty Envelope from McDonald’s
“I think they were more surprised someone mailed something in. the fact they replied with nothing isnt that surprising actually lol,” remarked a commenter. Some people accused this empty envelope of being a type of mail fraud, though that’s a legal can of worms OP did not engage with in the comments. Though some people did turn the conversation towards the midterms, considering mail-in ballots are a thing for voters.
“The biggest surprise here is that your mailbox has been empty this election season!” exclaimed a Redditor. “On a tangent, never forget that Greg Abbott received a $5.8M judgment for his injuries sustained from that tree,” added another. Countless others chimed in, claiming that promotions held by McDonald’s are bound to be rigged, if not malicious. “The whole game is now built around pushing you to download their spyware app,” said a user.
That said, while a commenter’s question of “I guess you didn’t win?” appears to be obvious from OP’s post, Kaleidoscope did say they’ve received something other than an empty envelope from McDonald’s. “I got one back yesterday that had a ticket in it! It’s on a 3x2inch-ish paper,” they said; though whether they won anything, they didn’t say.
