A New York woman documents her incredibly annoying plane flight, wherein she was hassled by a “Karen.” The dispute began when she had to fight over who had the right to the window seat, leading to a meltdown.
TikTok user Ohhhhnyny_, Ny, shared the aftermath of a confrontation with a passenger while flying Delta. They hadn’t been seated at the window—Ny was—however, she wanted to control whether the window blinds were up or down. The passenger, according to Ny, wanted it up; Ny wanted the opposite.
The tug-of-war came in many flavors, such as Ny coming back from the bathroom to see the curtain up. Ny says in her TikTok video she tried to accommodate, but whenever she closed the curtain, the lady would speak up, saying, “I’m a nervous flier. I need to fly with the window up.” When things got worse, Ny claims the woman started to cry and hyperventilate.
This led to a conversation with one of the flight attendants, and Ny would then have to file a complaint after the flight. Luckily, the passenger was moved so she wouldn’t bother Ny for the rest of the flight.
People online side with Ny, agreeing she was in the right
Ny’s argument was simple: she bought the window seat; she gets control of the window. She adds, as she did in the original video, that she bought that seat to best fit her comfort without imposing on others. She argues the passenger didn’t have a right to have full control, or any control for that matter, over what she does with the window.
Most of the commenters in the comment section of her TikTok video argued the same. “To control the windows shade you must purchase the windows seat,” said one viewer.
One commenter expanded on supposed plane etiquette, saying middle seat “gets both arm rests” while those in the aisle have “more leg room” and “easier” access to the bathroom. “Thems the rules” they exclaimed.
Another speculated the passenger had a motive: “She was trying to get moved to first class by harassing and aggravating the women in the window seat.” Others suggested Ny sue the company as well.
Ny has since posted several update videos, speaking more on the matter. She claims the passenger was comfortable invading her space, saying the passenger reached over Ny at one point to open the window. She also clarified that she made the report after the flight, not before.
