A Crumbl Cookies location in Charlotte, North Carolina, has shut down and disposed of all its dough after an employee was caught oiling a coworker’s scalp, effectively transforming the place into a hair salon. The involved individuals are no longer employed by Crumbl.
Footage of the “oiling” was recorded by a customer, who then shared the footage with other outlets. Charlotte-based reporter Kaci Jones shared the clip on her TikTok account, quickly becoming her biggest video ever. It garnered 478,900 views, 44,600 likes, and more than 3,700 comments.
The video of the North Carolina Crumbl showed an employee oiling a coworker’s scalp inside the store located on South Kings Drive. To say that the customer was shocked would be an understatement. After all, it was a very bizarre sight, as another worker standing close to the two women was frosting cookies and the ovens were running in the background.
The man recording the clip then chose to enter the store. While this part of the interaction was not caught on video, he attempted to call them out, telling the Crumbl workers that what they were doing was unsanitary. His assessment was quickly dismissed.
“Does it look like I’m cooking?” the woman oiling the scalp allegedly told him.
The brief interaction didn’t stop there. As reported by WCNC, the man then asked for a batch of soft chocolate chip cookies. He was told they didn’t have any fresh cookies available at the time. He came out empty-handed, which was probably for the best. In the end, he and another witness called Crumbl’s corporate office to report what they had seen.
Crumbl Responds
Crumbl later shared a statement with the outlet. In it, they called the oiling incident “unacceptable” and said that it “does not reflect Crumbl’s standards.” Additionally, after learning what happened at the Charlotte store, the store was closed, all the cookie dough was discarded, and a professional cleaning crew was brought in to take care of the business.
“We hold every location to strict health and safety policies, and we take violations seriously when they occur,” the statement read.
Crumbl has since confirmed that the employees involved in the oiling debacle are no longer employed by them. It is unclear whether they were fired or resigned as a result of the viral clip.
North Carolina Reacts
The clip sparked multiple responses, mostly from viewers witnessing how the cookies crumbled. One said, “Bro, what happened to decorum?” Another one commented, “The work ethic for that generation is horrible.”
Others gave out more general statements, still directed at the situation at hand. One wrote, “This is why I don’t want to eat at places that hire kids.” Another one added, “This is why they’re giving the jobs to robots.”
The Charlotte store was closed down on Monday and has since reopened its doors. Hopefully, no more scalps will be oiled inside.
