While many of us often think that our mail is safe at the hands of USPS, citizens of Durham, North Carolina, will see that this won’t be the case for them, at least this week. A Redditor recently shared an unfortunate accident at the Interstate 40. By the looks of it, a USPS driver lost hundreds of letters, bills, and more in it. While it seems this was a vehicular malfunction, that doesn’t take away the fact that many people in Durham won’t have their mail on time.
NotOnMyBingoCardB*ish was the user who shared the video on the r/NorthCarolina subreddit. In it, we can see a bunch of mail scattered across the I-40 in North Carolina, which was on its way to be delivered by a USPS Driver. According to the news by WRAL News, the driver’s van had a door malfunction. However, malfunction is a way to put it mildly because it seems the door wasn’t secured properly.
According to the above article, this mail was coming to Chapel Hill. So, if you live there, expect your letters, cards, and other personal items to arrive later than expected. Fortunately, the Postal Service has recovered all the mail and will deliver it to their owners soon.
Still, if people need something urgently, they must wait at least one more day.
As you can expect, many North Carolina citizens, especially those in Chapel Hill, shared some opinions.
“Wonder how many state tax refunds are in that debris.” – Lipid-LPa-Heart via Reddit.
“Chapel Hill here, not happy.” – mxn2107 via Reddit.
Others took their time to share that USPS was in crisis mode and sent people to work on recovering the mail as fast as possible.
“There’s so many poor USPS workers trying to salvage it on the roadside. Big yikes.” – pumpkin89x via Reddit.
While the event is over, we hope it doesn’t happen again. Hopefully, the drivers will check the vehicle’s doors next time before leaving with everyone’s mail.
