Ohio Woman Stunned After Watching Walmart Employee Throw Away Healthy Plants: ‘Society is Manufacturing Scarcity’

That’s just insane

As an Ohio woman sat in a Walmart parking lot, she never expected to see something that absolutely shocked her to her core. But this is what happened when an employee started throwing away perfectly good plants in the Walmart dumpster.

Nickie (@itsgottabnickieb) started recording when she saw a Walmart employee throwing away an entire cart of plants in the outside dumpster. Nickie told her audience that she was waiting for him to finish throwing away the rows and rows of perfectly healthy plants. Then, she was going to go rescue the plants and plant them somewhere. She tells her audience, “I will absolutely dive in that dumpster for these plants.”

Unfortunately, her plans were all for naught. In her second update video, Nickie watches as the Walmart employee finishes throwing away all the plants. Then, he puts a padlock on the dumpster so nobody from the outside can access it. Nickie sits in shock and states, “How ridiculous and petty is Walmart?”

In a third update, Nickie watches as the employee returns with even more plants for the dumpster. This time, he has entire small trees that cover an entire cart. Nickie watches in awe and asks, “These can’t be donated? Or, like, to the city, to schools? I think there’s lots of things we can do with these rather than throw them away!” In the end, she wasn’t able to rescue the plants because the dumpster was locked.

Commenters responded to Nickie’s video with outrage that a store would throw away perfectly healthy plants the world can use. One commenter stated, “We live in a society that is manufacturing scarcity.” Another commenter shared that they experienced this for themselves, but at a different store. They shared, “Lowe’s told me I couldn’t get them from the trash cans. It was roses and lime trees.” But another commenter tried to explain, “Once it’s in the trash it’s no longer theirs. They’ve relinquished property rights to it.”

Commenters continue to share their opinions on this divisive video. One commenter explained to Nickie that Walmart “has to do this.” They went on, “They get refunded from the vendor for unsold or defective items.” It’s undeterminable what would have happened if Nickie had asked the employee for some of the plants. But according to the comments, they likely would have told her ‘no.’
