OJ Simpson‘s final moment wasn’t what many believed it to be. The late NFL player was a polarizing figure while he was alive. His reputation became soiled after his ex-wife Nicole Brown and her friend Ronald Goldman were found dead in 1994. O.J. was the primary suspect and was charged with the murders. However, he was acquitted in what many termed a shoddy trial. Nevertheless, the scandal followed up for the rest of his life and maybe into his final moments on earth.
OJ Simpson’s Lawyer Shares Truth About His Final Days
According to OJ’s lawyer, the controversial athlete’s death came as a surprise because he was in good spirits just weeks before. Attorney Malcom LaVergne told The Associated Press that he had a hearty chat with his client just before Easter. “He was awake, alert and chilling,” LaVergne told the publication. “
“He’s on the couch … drinking a beer and watching TV. And so that was the last time we had effective back-and-forth conversations. He’s usually the one who keeps me up on the news … so we were just catching up on the news then.”
However, just a week later, around April 5, OJ Simpson began “transitioning.” LaVergne says that for their final meeting before his passing, OJ only had the strength to ask for water and watch a golf tournament. They barely even spoke.
As for the question on everybody’s mind — did OJ Simpson make any deathbed confessions? — LaVergne denies the occurrence of such. According to the attorney, fans’ obsession with a confession is an attempt to sensationalize the death of his client.
What Was OJ Simpson’s Relationship With His Kids?
Although the world wasn’t fond of the Buffalo Bills alum, O.J. was a proud father of five kids. The late NFL player shared two kids, Sydney and Justin, with the late Simpson. He previously welcomed three children, Arnelle, Jason, and Aaren, with his first wife, Marguerite Whitley. On April 10, his family put up a united front and released a statement on X confirming his passing. It read:
“On April 10th, our father, Orenthal James Simpson, succumbed to his battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his children and grandchildren.”
While the statement made it seem as though O.J. was on great terms with all his children, LaVergne denies that was the case. The lawyer confessed that, on the contrary, only one person was with O.J. Simpson when he died. However, he refused to reveal the identity of the person, saying it was a “close family member.”
Shedding light on the absence of OJ’s kids at his deathbed, LaVergne said, “You have to remember that they’ve shared O.J. with the world their entire lives. At first, they shared good O.J., But still, he was famous. And then, in 1994 on, they kind of had to share bad boy O.J. with the world.”
He continued, “But at the end of the day, these children just lost a father. And they have the added burden that he is one of the most famous people on the planet, and who is polarizing and who is surrounded by controversy.”
The new revelation, no doubt, begs the question — what was O.J. Simpson’s relationship with his children? However, only time will tell if the kids will ever tell their truth.
