Game Developer Bandai Namco has officially confirmed that the popular anime manga series, One Piece, will be receiving a brand new, full JRPG in the form of One Piece Odyssey. Announced during a video presentation celebrating the 25th anniversary of One Piece, Bandai Namco reveled that One Piece Odyssey will feature an original story written by series creator Eiichiro Oda. The series will be getting a new RPG with an original story written by series creator Eiichiro Oda. The game will release on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC sometime in 2022, with a new trailer coming alongside the announcement. Pre-orders are available now.
One Piece Odyssey is a new open-world JRPG following the adventures of the notorious Straw Hats pirates on their quest for treasures and to find a mysterious island to explore. The game is being developed by ILCA, the Japanese studio that recently worked on the Pokemon Brilliant Diamond / Shining Pearl remakes, as well as Dragon Quest XI and Nier Replicant. The trailer showed that the gameplay will feature turn-based combat as well as the ability to play as the crew of the Thousand Sunny as well as a brand new, yet to be announced character.
The official description of the game reads:
“During their voyage, the Straw Hats, led by Monkey D. Luffy, are swallowed by a huge storm at sea. They end up on a mysterious island full of nature amidst the storm and become separated from each other. The crew sets out on a new adventurous journey filled with wonders of a raging nature, powerful enemies, and strange encounters with island locals. Work together with Luffy and his crew to set sail once again!”
Other playable characters for One Piece Odyssey be Zoro, Nami, Usopp, Sanji, Chopper, Robin, Frankie, and Brook. Game producer Katsuaki Tsuzuki also gave further details on the project in a separate video.
