Our Flag Means Death star Guz Khan, who played crewmate Ivan in Taika Waititi’s Blackbeard, has announced on Twitter that he will not return to the series for the recently announced season two.
“This is the industry sometimes, they might be choosing a different direction creatively, maybe it’s a financial decision, maybe they weren’t feeling your boy,” Khan wrote. “But it’s all part of the journey, and that’s where the fun is for me!”
And for everyone asking, a lot…😅

HBO finds gold with Our Flag Means Death
Although the role was minor, Guz Khan had a lot to offer in Our Flag Means Death. The LGBTQ+ friendly pirate rom-com mostly featured him with costar David Fane, who played Fang, while they helped out Blackbeard and the rest of the crew. The actor is known for other roles in shows like Four Weddings and a Funeral, Man Like Mobeen, and Turn Up Charlie. He recently starred in the Netflix film The Bubble with Harry Trevaldwyn (The King), Our Flag Means Death costar Samson Kayo, Peter Serafinowicz (Shaun of the Dead), and Karen Gillan.
HBO found a hit with Our Flag Means Death. The series blew up for its wholesomeness, exploring Rhys Darby’s portrayal of the Gentleman Pirate Stede Bonnet and LGBTQ+ representation. When it ended, fans anticipated a season two announcement to come right away, but it took longer than expected. HBO made a fitting announcement at the beginning of this month, also known as Pride Month.
Not much is known about season two. From the cliffhanger of the debut season, fans should have some ideas of where Stede, Blackbeard, and the rest of the crew will be headed. What is known is that Waititi, Darby, Nathan Foad, Kayo, Vico Ortiz, Ewen Bremner, Joel Fry, Matt Maher, Kristian Nairn, Con O’Neill, Rory Kinnear, Samba Schutte, Nat Faxon, Fred Armisen, Leslie Jones, and Fane will all return.
Season one consists of 10 episodes, and you can watch all of it now on HBO Max.
