A mom from Michigan is going viral right now because she claims that her local private pool club has been overrun by women wearing burkas, whom she assumes are Muslim or Arabic. Moreover, the mother has raised additional concerns because the pool apparently allowed the burkas on during swimming despite numerous complaints from other people, therefore violating the club’s swimsuit and sanitation rules.
TikTok user MAGAMAMA47, or simply MAGA mama from Shelby Township in Michigan, is the chief complainant in question. On May 18, MAGA mama posted a storytime video detailing her experience at the private pool club, where she encountered a woman entering the water while wearing a burka or burqa, the staple garment of some Muslim women.
“I have totally cut off our membership because I’m not being in a pool with my family and somebody wearing an entire burka,” explains the mom. “It’s just gross. It’s a sanitary problem, and I don’t think it should ever be allowed,” she added. The concerned mom also alleged that her 9-year-old son was insulted by a 13-year-old girl, who was supposedly the daughter of an Arab woman at the pool.
According to MAGA mama, she did complain to the club management, only to find out that the lifeguards had also received multiple complaints already, and it appears nothing was being done about the burqa situation. As for why she doesn’t like swimming with someone wearing a burqa, the mom suggests that the burqa “has germs.” Hence, why “Americans aren’t happy about it.”
The MAGA mom has started a debate online
One of the most viral and vocal reposts of the MAGA mom’s video about her pool experience with Muslim women essentially boiled down to the argument of “Maybe Burqas should be banned in America.” Some extreme arguments even want Muslim people in the US deported, “These people need to go back to their Sharia law countries.”
Others, however, were more level-headed with their sentiments, asking for the MAGA mom to be more open-minded, saying, “You have a responsibility to teach your children on how to accept and embrace all people of the world. Love thy neighbour, don’t stand in judgement of others. Racism begins at home, please don’t let it grow in your home.”
For some reason, one TikTok user blamed the current US President, writing, “Our President betrayed us! DEVASTATING” while discussing the growing number of Muslim women wearing burqas in Michigan. Meanwhile, MAGA mom herself received her own wave of criticism, asking how she knew that the specific burka the women were wearing was not for swimming. “My question is how do you know it’s actually not swimwear? There are full burka swimwear,” asks a commenter.
