A North Carolina woman sparked outrage online after posting a video in which she appeared to encourage people to physically attack police officers while they’re off duty.

The woman shared a video addressing her followers in which she claimed that the problem was that they were “scared to touch” police officers when they were off duty. Some viewers interpreted the word “touch” as a reference to attacking them. She then added, “That’s why they feel like they are untouchable,” in reference to police officers.

“Y’all not whopping they [expletive] at their favorite bar,” she said, appearing to suggest that people were not attacking officers while they were off duty at places such as bars. She then repeated the same point, saying that people were not attacking officers when they were at the park with their children.

The woman then added, “Y’all not whopping they [expletive] between pump one and pump two at the gas station.” She repeated the same statement while changing the location to a grocery store. “They feel like they untouchable,” she said. She ended the video by saying, “Y’all start tearing they [expletive] up when they ain’t got that badge on, I promise you there will be a difference.”

In the case of the North Carolina woman’s video, encouraging people to attack off-duty police officers could potentially have legal consequences depending on the circumstances and applicable state law. Off-duty officers generally retain the right to defend themselves like anyone else, although their authority to act in an official law-enforcement capacity can vary based on state law and department policies.

Simply encouraging violence does not automatically mean someone will face a specific charge, but if authorities determine that a person intentionally encouraged, planned, or helped facilitate an attack, potential charges could include solicitation, conspiracy, or aiding and abetting, depending on the circumstances. The exact consequences would depend on what the woman said or did, whether anyone acted on the alleged encouragement, and the intent behind her statements.

More people criticized the woman over her comments, with some warning that encouraging violence against police officers could have serious consequences. “This woman is an idiot.” one person wrote. Another commenter added, “Someone remind this moron that even off duty, the cop is armed.”

The video drew widespread condemnation from viewers, with many arguing that encouraging violence against officers crossed a serious line. As of publication, it is unclear whether law enforcement is investigating the woman’s statements or whether she has faced any consequences over the video.
