Overwatch started out with a roster of 21 strong, and has since added three additional heroes: sniper support healer Ana, bruiser tank Orisa, and brutal beatdown specialist Doomfist. At BlizzCon 2017, the company released information about additions to nearly all of their popular games, including the newest roster addition to Overwatch: an evil-looking healer (who looks as if she can also dish out some serious damage) by the name of Moira O’Deorain.
According to Overwatch lore, Moira is an extremely talented geneticist who worked for the secret scientific wing of the Overwatch team, Blackwatch. Her work was always ethically controversial, however, and she was disavowed when it was discovered that she worked for the team. She has since found work through shadowy organizations, including Talon, the terrorist organization that employs Reaper, Sombra, Windowmaker, and Doomfist. Essentially, even though Moira is a healer, she does not fall into the “lawful good” alignment chart.
Story aside, here’s what Moira is capable of. She is a support character with both healing and damage options, as well as a short teleport. Here’s what she can do, according to her hero page on Blizzard’s website:
- Biotic Grasp: Moira has a resource called biotic energy, which she fires from her left hand to heal allies. From her right hand, she fires a beam that drains enemy health, heals Moira, and replenishes her biotic energy.
- Biotic Orb: Moira fires a bouncing orb that either heals multiple allies in a chain or damages enemies in a chain.
- Fade: A short teleport.
- Coalescence: A powerful, long range beam that heals allies and passes through barriers to damage enemies.
It sounds like Moira will benefit tremendously from map knowledge, as being able to line up her coalescence ability through walls could be an absolute game changer.
