Watch out when there is a full moon out. Ozark alum Julia Garner has joined Poor Things star Christopher Abbott to be in the cast of the Wolf Man remake from Leigh Whannell. The star of the popular Jason Bateman-led Netflix series plays a mother protecting her family from a deadly predator.
The film was originally going to be led by Ryan Gosling. The latest casting update comes weeks after it was announced that the Poor Things actor would replace the Barbie actor as the lead. The remake of the classic Universal movie had set the Saw writer as the writer-director, but he stepped away in 2021. Place Beyond the Pines director Derek Cianfrance stepped in as his replacement, but the previous filmmaker was brought back on to guide the project.
Ozark Alum Julia Garner Reunites With Cast Member Christopher Abbott in the Wolf Man Remake
The two leads are currently the only stars announced for the film that will be released this October. It will be a reunion for them as they are now in much better positions in their careers. They worked together in 2011’s Martha Marcy May Marlene, which starred Elizabeth Olsen and Sarah Paulson.
The director has set a high bar for himself. In 2021, his Invisible Man remake was a major critical and commercial hit. The modernized take with Elizabeth Moss radically changed the story of the classic to fit a new vision. From that, we can expect Julia Garner to be in a different twist for the Wolf Man remake that will give a breath of fresh air to the story. It was co-written by Whannell, Corbett Tuck, Lauren Schuker Blum, and Rebecca Angelo.
The remake will bite audiences when it hits theaters on October 25, 2024.
