Recently, Singularity 6 has shown off a first-look trailer for their upcoming MMO farming sim, Palia. In the hour-long video, the devs played through the initial story and gameplay of Palia, as well as exploring many of the mechanics that players will come to expect in the finished product. So far, it’s safe to say that Palia looks extremely promising. Any fans of farming sim games like Stardew Valley or Harvest Moon should keep an eye on Palia. However, the game also takes another source of inspiration from Breath of the Wild and Genshin Impact. While these games may seem like an odd combination, the inspirations in the first-look trailer are very apparent. In a way, Palia may be a great farming sim combined with Genshin Impact that could appeal to both audiences.
What Is Palia?
Palia is a third-person MMO farming sim set in a high fantasy world. The game places a huge focus on its community aspect, where players will choose the role they want to take in society. In Palia’s first-look gameplay trailer, we see elements that are standard in many fantasy farming sims as well. This includes farming, fishing, crafting, catching bugs, and much more. The game also prioritizes a sense of community that fits very well with the genre of MMOs.
Additionally, the game will be free-to-play, meaning that, Palia is easily accessible without any investment. On top of this, the movement, graphics, and controls all have taken inspiration from the Breath of the Wild and Genshin Impact formula. Players will need to glide and climb to navigate the world of Palia. Despite this, exploration seems to be less of a priority in Palia.
Palia Features Many Elements From Games Like Genshin Impact
From what we’ve seen so far, Palia’s fusion of Genshin Impact-style movement with a farming sim world is a great fit. The third-person feel fits like a glove in a game that wants to focus on exploration and community growth. As of writing, no other game is doing what Palia is attempting to do. The grassy and mountainous environments also give off a heavy Mondstadt vibe Genshin Travelers are familiar with.
Based on what was shown in Palia’s trailer, Singularity 6 is bringing something entirely new to the gaming community. It’ll be interesting to see how all these elements come together on release. Hopefully, the gameplay will help cultivate the community that Palia is attempting to bring together without being overshadowed by games with a similar playstyle.
Palia Is More Than Just Its Genshin Impact Similarities
Of course, outside of controls and environment, Palia and Genshin Impact have few other similarities. One of the most significant differences is that Palia doesn’t have any sort of combat system. Overall, the game seems to focus on a more casual, community-based experience. Having combat may sour the tone that Palia is trying to establish.
On top of this, Genshin Impact isn’t technically an MMO, despite having some multiplayer elements. Players will not need to deal with monetization options like Genshin Impact’s Gacha system. Luckily, the only monetization options in Palia so far are cosmetic and not too intrusive. In the end, though Palia is a farming sim, it borrows some of the best aspects of Genshin Impact, exploration, and environment.
Although Palia is still unavailable to the public, it’s hard to not get excited at the prospect of the game. Fans of Genshin Impact, farming sims, and MMOs will definitely see Palia as one of their top anticipated releases of 2023. Nonetheless, it’s hard to make an initial judgment based on the limited information shown so far.
At the very least, Palia’s first gameplay trailer shares a lot of promise and polish. As a concept on paper, the game sounds fantastic. However, whether or not the dev team can deliver on these expectations is still up in the air. Until then, we predict Palia will provide an excellent and unique farming sim that players can enjoy for years to come.
