It can be exciting for fans when actors reprise iconic roles, but it may not always be as satisfying for the actor. When Patrick Stewart came into the MCU for a cameo as Professor X in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the process was “frustrating and disappointing” for the star. While actors typically get to work together, some days that’s not always the case. To illustrate: filming the 2022 pic made Stewart feel “alone”.
The scene in question saw Benedict Cumberbatch’s sorcerer meet with the Illuminati, featuring cameos from Stewart’s Professor X, John Krasinski’s Mr Fantastic, Lashana Lynch’s Captain Marvel, Anson Mount’s Black Bolt, and Hayley Atwell’s Captain Carter. They were eventually brutally ripped apart by Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch.
Patrick Stewart Recalls His Doctor Strange Cameo as Professor X
Speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the Star Trek star was asked about his experience with the Sam Raimi movie. He recalled how he was “alone” and how the other actors had a similar experience. He relented “that’s how it has been” over the “last few years.”
It was alone. I think the big scene, each one of the leading actors had the same experience. They were shot on their own. It was a frustrating and disappointing but that’s how it has been. The last few years have been challenging.

The one experience does not mean we could never see another cameo for Patrick Stewart as he gets back in the chair as Professor X. He revealed that he had conversations for another appearance for Deadpool 3. Due to “labor problems and the health problems, and COVID,” it does not look like the actor took the job.
Patrick Stewart was not the only one unsatisfied by his cameo as Professor X. Hayley Atwell spoke on the Happy Sad Confused podcast about her experience. She felt her quick death didn’t “serve Peggy very well.” She has been given justice on What If…?, but no indications have been made if we will get a proper live-action Captain Carter appearance.
