A Tennessee teacher, Scarlett, claims that her principal sent her “the ugliest email,” not excusing her for missing class even though she’s in the hospital. She shares the email in a TikTok video with over 648,000 views, 31,000 likes, and over 2,000 comments.
The email states that “her absence is continuing to disrupt classroom operations.” The email Scarlett shared acknowledges that she’s dealing with a medical situation but still says her responsibilities to her students remain. It also says, “We expect you to teach virtually from the hospital tomorrow.” The principal also allegedly expects her to have all her lesson plans uploaded by 5 p.m. on the day she received the email.
Scarlett doesn’t specify why she was in the hospital or how long she was there. However, she was still there when she received the alleged email. This is seen in the video. In a separate video on her TikTok channel, @scarletts.songs, Scarlett says a substitute teacher has been covering her class. In this video, she adds that a student complained about homework.
Scarlett has not identified the principal or school in the video, and no one has independently confirmed the email’s authenticity.
Thousands Shocked By Tennessee Email
Scarlett’s video has principals sounding off in the comments. One says, “From a former Principal… this email is totally unacceptable!!” Another adds, “Retired principal here…your principal is insane.” Meanwhile, others feel this is a new level of insanity. One person suggests, “Today’s lesson: boundaries, workers’ rights in the USA and how to update your resume.”
Elsewhere in the comments, other teachers share similar alleged experiences. One of them states, “I was on a ventilator, and they kept calling the nurses’ station wanting my lesson plans lol.” Another adds, “This happened to me when I was out having a procedure [on] the brain and spinal cord. This is very real smh 🤦🏾♀️.” A third teacher says, “I was in the hospital with a serious medical issue… my principal was still making me do report cards!!!!“
Scarlett doesn’t say whether she sent her lesson plans or taught the next day virtually. She is now out of the hospital at the time of this article.
