Where to Find Azelf in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl
Azelf is a Psychic-type Legendary Pokémon that does not have an evolutionary path. Instead, it remains the adorable, levitating creature at all times.
To find Azelf in Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl, you don’t have to go through the chase that Mesprit put you through. Thankfully, Azelf is stationary, so you’ll only ever find them in a single location: Valor Cavern.
Azelf will show up in Valor Cavern, located in the middle of Lake Valor, so you will need to use the surf ability to get there. You can’t do this anytime you want in the game, though. Instead, you have to meet two prerequisites:
- Defeat Team Galactic at Mt. Coronet
- Defeat/Catch Dialga or Palika
When the above steps are taken, those that blocked the entrance to Azelf’s lair will move. This way, you can finally get in there and find Azelf in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl.
For those of you who may not remember how to get to Lake Valor, know that the area rests between Sunyshore, Pastoria, and Veilstone. One way to get to the Lake is to head to either Pastoria or Veilstone and go to Route 214. The Lake is connected to the Route.
How to Catch Azelf in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl
Now that you know where to find Azelf in Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl, it’s time to catch them. Remember to save before your encounter. They aren’t any tougher than some of the other Legendary Pokémon, but it’s easy to knock them out or use the wrong Pokémon against them and lose.
Also, remember that Azelf is a Psychic-type and starts at Level 50. If you have a Dark-type like Absol, they can take a lot of damage so that you can focus on wearing Azelf’s HP down without knocking them out. Absol can also use False Swipe that guarantees Azelf’s HP will get down to 1. This way, chip away at their health and start pelting them with Poké Balls.
Consider saving up on Ultra Balls, Quick Balls, and Dusk Balls. These should give you a good chance of catching Azelf after you find them in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl.
