Getting a Shiny Diglett or Meowth is one thing. Getting a Shiny Legendary in Pokemon is another. Tapu Lele is an eye-catching monster even when it isn’t Shiny. This Psychic- and Fairy-type Guardian Denity joined Pokemon Go in March 2022, and players have been on the hunt for the Shiny variant ever since. First appearing during a Valentine’s Day Event, Tapu Lele proves that there’s nothing easier to fall in love with than a pile of powerful pixels. Here’s what you need to know about about Shiny Tapu Lele in Pokemon GO.

Yes, Tapu Lele can be Shiny in Pokemon Go. Unfortunately, there’s no way to guarantee that the Shiny version will appear. You won’t just stumble upon this Psychic warrior during a Wild Encounter, either. You’ll instead need to battle it during a Five-Star Raid. Taking the fight to anything with “Legendary” in the name solo is a recipe for a beat-up Pikachu, so do the right thing and bring help. It’s a tough fight, but here’s what we recommend:
- Bring at least three high-level Trainers with you to the fight
- Alternatively, coordinate a larger 5-6 person Raid to take Tapu Lele down
- You can’t tell if the Tapu Lele is Shiny before starting the Raid, so don’t stress it
It’s not until you defeat Tapu Lele and enter the Catch Screen that you’ll see whether or not it’s Shiny. At this stage, you’ll need Premier Balls to capture the Legendary Psychic Fairy. You’ll want to use Golden Razz Berries to boost your chances of a successful capture as well. If a Shiny version of this Legendary Guardian slips away, you might be stuck waiting a while before another appears. Fairy dust doesn’t come cheap, after all.
