Pokémon GO How to Farm Mystery Boxes for Meltan
This article is over 3 years old and may contain outdated information.

Meltan is a rare, Mythical Steel-type Pokémon in Pokémon GO that Trainers could farm using a unique item known as the Mystery Box. Initially introduced in 2018, these boxes served as a promotional item following the release of Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon Let’s Go, Eevee! for the Nintendo Switch. Mystery Boxes in Pokémon GO functioned similarly to Incense, attracting Meltan to a Trainer’s location for 60 minutes, allowing players to catch this Mythical Pokémon for a limited time. In the past, Mystery Boxes were obtained by transferring Pokémon from Pokémon GO to one of the Switch’s Let’s Go games. However, an alternate method has also been implemented.

Farming Mystery Boxes for Meltan In Pokémon GO

To farm Mystery Boxes for catching Meltan in Pokémon GO, Trainers must download and install Pokémon HOME onto their device and connect their Pokémon GO account with this app. Next, transfer any Pokémon to the Pokémon HOME app to receive a Mystery Box. Keep in mind that only one Mystery Box can be obtained every three days.

Remember that the linked account on Pokémon HOME must be the same as one’s Pokémon GO; otherwise, the process will not complete successfully. Furthermore, if the Mystery Box is not present in the Trainer’s inventory, they can exit and reopen the game to find their item. To use a Mystery Box in Pokémon GO, simply tap on the item until it activates and begins luring Meltan to the player’s location. Since the box is only active for an hour, Trainers should ensure they are free between when the Mystery Box is activated and the time it expires. Moreover, it is recommended that the player has a sufficient reserve of Poké Balls for catching Meltan.

A total of 400 Candy is required to evolve Meltan into Melmetal in Pokémon GO. While the Mystery Box is active, players are advised to use Pinap Berries to maximize their income of Meltan Candy while they catch the Steel-type Pokémon. Once the box has been used up, Trainers can continue earning Candy passively by setting Meltan as their Buddy, rewarding players with Candy as they walk with the Pokémon. Additionally, they can transfer any extra Pokémon they have to Professor Willow. Pokémon GO will occasionally have events during which players can earn double the Transfer Candy. Accordingly, those looking to farm more Meltan Candy can conduct transfers during such events.
