Pokémon GO How to Get and Use a Dragon Scale
This article is over 2 years old and may contain outdated information.

The Dragon Scale is an Evolution Item in Pokémon GO used to cause a particular species of Pokémon to evolve. Similar to the rest of the Evolution Items, such as the Metal Coat or Up-Grade, Dragon Scales are extremely rare, making them tricky to obtain. Fortunately, the appearance of these items is not tied to any time-limited event like the TCG Crossover. Therefore, it is possible to get a Dragon Scale at any time during one’s playthrough of Pokémon GO. Nonetheless, the chances are still slim, meaning that grinding and a lot of luck are required to acquire this Evolution Item.

Using the Dragon Scale in Pokémon GO

To get a Dragon Scale in Pokémon GO, Trainers must spin Pokéstops in hopes of receiving the Dragon Scale as a 1% drop reward. However, this drop chance is also contending with the seven other Evolution Items. Therefore, there is only a minuscule possibility that players will receive the Dragon Scale upon spinning a Pokéstop.

Fortunately, spinning Pokéstops for the 1% drop is not the only technique for getting a Dragon Scale in Pokémon GO. By interacting with a Pokéstop at least once a day, Trainers will receive a bonus haul of rewards, such as Healing Potions, Revives, Poké Balls, and Berries. This jackpot of items is rewarded to players from their “First Pokéstop of the Day.” Furthermore, this ongoing quest is part of an endless milestone goal known as the “7 Day Streak!” for Pokéstops. Every time Trainers spin a stop for the first time after a daily reset, they will receive the bonus items and a mark. Once these marks reach a total of seven, the “7 Day Streak!” will appear on their screen, and they will receive a random Evolution Item. This Streak reward is guaranteed, meaning there’s a 1-out-of-7 chance that a player will get the Dragon Scale in Pokémon GO.

After finally acquiring a Dragon Scale, Trainers can use this Evolution Item to evolve Seadra into Kingdra. Seadra is a Water-type, seahorse-like Pokémon in Pokémon GO that transforms into Kingdra once it has been given 100 Candies and a Dragon Scale. Kingdra is a Water- and Dragon-type Pokémon, which can be a formidable elemental pair in combat, depending on a PvP or PvE matchup. Currently, Seadra is the only Pokémon in Pokémon GO that needs the Dragon Scale to evolve.

Pokémon GO is available on iOS and Android.
