While many familiar aspects of the Pokemon series have received some tweaking with the latest entry, Pokemon Legends: Arceus, the center of the game still revolves around catching and evolving your Pokemon. One of the Pokemon that you can evolve is Basculin, who debuted in Generation V and didn’t have an evolution until this new game. Basculin can now become Basculegion, and with the Pokemon being new, many players will want to know how to get the piranha-like Pokemon to evolve. This guide will explain how to evolve Basculin into Basculegion in Pokemon Legends: Arceus.

How To Evolve Basculin in Pokemon Legends: Arceus

Unlike other Pokemon that require you to simply get your Friendship with them to a certain level or to get them to a specific level, Basculin requires a different process to evolve. Basculin needs to take recoil damage to become Basculegion. Recoil is damage taken by the user of particular moves, which means that to get Basculin to evolve, you will need to get them to use one of these moves until the Pokemon does a cumulative 300 damage to itself with recoil. You will want to have your Basculin use Wave Crash or Double-Edge to get the Recoil damage, but know that the damage only counts if the Basculin survives the damage. This means you have to make sure that the damage taken from the Recoil won’t KO your Basculin.

Once you do this, you will be given the prompt to evolve your Basculin. When a Pokemon is ready to evolve, the Pokeball icon next to their name in the menu is glowing yellow. Unlike other entries in the series, you will need to manually evolve the Pokemon. Simply scroll over to the Pokemon in question and press the X button to have it evolve and grow stronger.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus is available now on Nintendo Switch.
