The Pokemon Company has officially revealed their newest legendary today. Last week, Pecharunt made its debut in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet‘s The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC. This brand new Pokemon has a deceptively old story filled with power and deception, thanks to its penchant for mind-control. Pecharunt is also closely tied with Okidogi, Munkidori, and Fezandipiti, the trio of legendary Pokemon from The Teal Mask DLC, along with Ogerpon, the owner of the titular Teal Mask. Pecharunt’s full origin story was released in a five-minute animated video today, available on Pokemon’s official social media accounts.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet: Who (And What) Is Pecharunt?
A Poison-Ghost type Pokemon, Pecharunt’s special talents lay in its ability to create mind-controlling mochi. After a local couple took it in, Pecharunt used its mochi on them, revealing a dark greed inside the otherwise well-meaning couple. The greed was initially fulfilled with small, easily granted requests, but it would eventually escalate to the point where they sent Pecharunt to Kitakami to steal Ogrepon’s special masks. Along the way, Pecharunt’s mochi would enthrall the Loyal Three, Kitakami’s legendary Pokemon.
Though the Loyal Three were now on board to steal Ogrepon’s masks, Ogrepon killed them out of revenge for the implied death of his trainer. At the same time, Ogrepon knocked Pecharunt into a deep coma that it’s only now waking from in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s epilogue, starting a chain of events that’ll eventually lead it to the player character.
To unlock Pecharunt’s backstory in game, all Pokemon Scarlet and Violet players need to do is claim the Mythical Pecha Berry from the Mystery Gift menu. Like with the first part of The Teal Mask, players will need to have completed all three of Scarlet and Violet’s storylines in order to access Pecharunt’s story in the epilogue.
