While exploring the multiple different Mental Worlds of Psychonauts 2 you may come to a point where you would like to just get out. Whether it’s a frustrating section of a world that you want to bail on or you simply want to check out a different brain, it’s thankfully pretty simple to get out. Leaving a level in Psychonauts 2 involves using Smelling Salts. Smelling Salts allow Raz a quick exit to any level, putting you back into the real world. Here’s how to use Smelling Salts in Psychonauts 2.

How to Use Smelling Salts in Psychonauts 2

Luckily, using the Smelling Salts in Psychonauts 2 couldn’t be easier. First, access the menu by pressing either the ‘Options’ button, the ‘Menu’ button, or the ‘Escape’ key, depending on the system you are playing on. From there you will see an option that says ‘Exit Brain’. After selecting this option Raz will pop out his container of smelling salts, take a deep whiff, and quickly exit the Mental World. You will appear exactly where you left from in the real world upon your return. Do keep in mind that if you use Smelling Salts at a particularly inopportune time within a Mental World you may lose just a little bit of progress.

If you’re worried about accessing minds after escaping them using the Smelling Salts – don’t! The levels of Psychonauts 2 are completely open for exploration following their completion or your exiting of them. You can go back to collect things you missed or just soak up the ambiance of whoever’s Mental World suites you best. Accessing all of the Mental Worlds is as simple as using the Brain Tumbler machine that Sasha has in his lab. You can use the Brain Tumbler yourself or simply talk to Sasha and you will then find yourself in the Collective Unconscious with all the Psycho-Portals you currently have access to. Psychonauts 2 has a total of 13 different brains you can explore so don’t be afraid to head to something different if you are stuck. Best of luck exploring all those subconsciouses!

You can check out the video below by YouTuber Gameranx for more beginner info on Psychonauts 2 before you decide to jump in as well!

Psychonauts 2 is available now via PC (and MacOS & Linux), PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
