Radio Silence’s Scream is getting a sequel! Paramount Studios and Spyglass just announced today that a sequel is coming!
The newest entry in the installment has been widely successful by critics and audiences. The film has also reached $106 million globally. Radio Silence’s Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett will be returning to direct. Production is to begin this summer 2022. Radio Silence was able to capture the essence and meta-feeling iconic director Wes Craven created for the Scream franchise in the latest film. It’s exciting to see where they take the sequel to the “prequel”.
There is no news on the casting and who will be returning to reprise their roles but Scream (2022) had so many fun new characters, it would be fun to see them all again. The film brought back the original three Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox, and David Arquette. All three gave stellar and nostalgic performances in the new film. The new Scream movie also had the fantastic new cast members of Melissa Barrera, Jack Quaid, Jenna Ortega, Dylan Minnette, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and Mason Gooding.
Scream first hit theaters in 1996 and became an instant hit making $173 million worldwide. In the span of 26 years, the fans have had the privilege and joy ride of enjoying the sequels that came along with it. The Scream franchise manages to keep up to date with the latest in the horror genre. The films manage to have a twist every time a killer is revealed. The iconic horror director, Wes Craven, directed the four Scream movies but sadly passed away in 2015. This is the first Scream film not directed by the horror director. Radio silence made clear, from the beginning, that they wanted to honor Wes Craven in the new movie and they delivered. Kevin Williamson wrote the original Scream and will be returning to executive produce the sequel.
Scream is set for streaming on Paramount+ at the end of February. It is available to watch in theaters now!
