Reese Witherspoon and Margot Robbie are two of Hollywood’s most influential actresses. Aside from their incredible onscreen performances, the women have done amazing work with their production companies. Although the entertainment industry is a male-dominated field, Witherspoon and Robbie proved women can be successful.
In this day and age, many women are supporting each other in following their dreams. But that might not be the case with Witherspoon and Robbie.
Life & Style reports that a feud is brewing between the A-list actresses. One of the biggest sources of conflict is their dueling production companies.
A source told the magazine:
Hello Sunshine is in direct opposition right now to Margot’s LuckyChap company and everybody knows it.
Reese’s company has produced several critically acclaimed projects, including Gone Girl and The Morning Show. Meanwhile, Margot and her husband Tom Ackerley’s company produced I, Tonya and the smash hit Barbie.
Reese Witherspoon Forced to Scrap Legally Blonde Movie Plans Because of Barbie
Margot Robbie was the talk of Hollywood in 2023 thanks to the success of Barbie. The film was a summer blockbuster earning over $1 billion at the box office. While the movie was generally loved and applauded, Witherspoon wasn’t a fan. “Reese pointedly did not support the Barbie marketing movement, nor did her social circle,” the source reveals.
Reese’s dislike for Barbie is because the film forced her to alter plans for another Legally Blonde movie. The actress starred as Elle Woods in the 2001 hit comedy, and its 2003 sequel Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde. In recent years, Witherspoon has been working on a third film in the successful franchise.
Unfortunately, her hopes a third Legally Blonde film were dashed.
It’s no secret at Hello Sunshine or in Reese’s world that the success of Barbie obviated any need for a Legally Blonde 3.
But Reese Witherspoon wasn’t going down without a fight. The producer and her team immediately began brainstorming new ideas. “They tore up the script and came up with something new,” the source explained.
Luckily, Witherspoon found a home for her prequel series Elle, which follows the Legally Blonde character’s high-school years.
Amazon loved it and green-lit it instantly, which they weren’t willing to do with Reese’s previous Blonde franchise extensions.
Although Reese Witherspoon succeeded in her Legally Blonde pitch, her feud with Margot Robbie is far from over. While the source believes the two should bury the hatchet and work together, it won’t happen.
What makes sense is for them to team up on something but that’s not what’s happening. They are in direct opposition, and you can’t do business with both of them at the same time.
