Resident Evil Movie Reboot Offers Jill Valentine Role to Marvel Actress

While Resident Evil remakes have been all the rage these past couple of years, let’s not forget that Hollywood is also producing an RE reimagining of its own.

According to the website Illuminerdi, an actress has been offered the role of fan-favourite RE heroine Jill Valentine in the Resident Evil movie reboot. The actress in question? Her name is Hannah John-Kamen, and you might recognize her from Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018), where she played Ava Starr/Ghost.

Jill will allegedly be a little different from her videogame counterpart. She is described as “a small-town girl that enjoys hunting with the guys. She is gorgeous yet tough”, the producers are hoping to cast an African-American with mixed heritage in the role – although auditions are open to all ethnicities.

The Powers-That-Be are allegedly looking for an actress who is able to portray Jill over the course of multiple films, as the series will reportedly have her as the central character.

This take on the franchise is decidedly different from the previous RE movie series, which centered around an original character ‘Alice’ who bumped into the series’ famous characters over the course of her six-movie journey. Diehard fans of the videogames often complained that the heroes of the series were often sidelined by Alice, a character who was perceived as two-dimensional and uninteresting.

But this criticism didn’t stop the film series from financial success and six full films. It has been listed in the 2012 Guinness World Records: Gamer’s Edition as the most successful movie series based on a videogame. As a whole, the movie franchise drew in $1.2 billion.
