Titanfall developer Respawn surprise announced and released a new battle royale game via Twitch stream yesterday called Apex Legends.

Apex Legends is a Titanfall spinoff that mixes the battle royale and hero shooter genres. At the beginning of each squad-based match, players can choose from a roster of eight characters that have their own special abilities to aid them in battle. Finding the right hero for your chosen strategy will be a huge part of being successful in Apex Legends.

APEX LEGENDS Gameplay Trailer (2019)

Respawn is the developer of the Titanfall series, one of the most critically-acclaimed shooters in recent memory. In Titanfall and Titanfall 2, you piloted Titans (thing large mechs with big weapons) as well as boot-on-the-ground shooting. The story and gameplay were very well-received, garnering a score in the high 80s for both titles.

Though many are surprised and excited by the release of Apex Legends, a large portion of the gaming industry speculated that Respawn was working on Titanfall 3 (considering that they announced that they were in development on a Titanfall-related title; turns out it was the Apex Legends spinoff). On the contrary, Respawn has officially confirmed that Titanfall 3 is not currently in development at all, so it may be some time before we see it.

Apex Legends

In addition to Apex Legends, which will be supported for years to come if it is successful, Respawn has two other titles in the pipeline, including Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order and an unnamed VR title. Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order is set to release later in 2019.

Apex Legends is now available for download on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

Are you going to be playing Apex Legends this week? If so, let us know what your thoughts are! If not, what else are you playing? Tell us in the comments below.
