In a thread of tweets, Rian Johnson has unveiled the title for Knives Out 2. It is not exactly what fans would expect, with its name being Glass Onion, A Knives Out Mystery.

In the thread, the director looks at what made Agatha Christie’s novels special. He also examined how her formula inspired the direction he wanted to take with the sequels to his whodunit hit.
“It wasn’t just settings or murder methods, she was constantly stretching the genre conceptually. Under the umbrella of the whodunnit she wrote spy thrillers, proto-slasher horrors, serial killer hunts, gothic romances, psychological character studies, glam travelogues,” he tweeted. “When I made Knives Out, that’s what excited me about the prospect of making more mysteries with Daniel as Benoit Blanc – to emulate Christie and have every film be like a whole new book, with its own tone, ambition, reason for being… and (ta dah) title.”
Now with the title of Knives Out 2 out in the wild, fans will have to wait for a more extensive look at the film. We have gotten some images but no trailer to set the tone and expectation for what Rian Johnson has cooked up for the next Knives Out mystery.
Rian Johnson directs Glass Onion, A Knives Out Mystery
The first film was set in a home located south of Boston. The next will see Daniel Craig’s Benoit Blanc going to Greece. There, he will meet a new cast of suspects that consists of A-lister stars, as seen in the previous entry. This one will star Edward Norton, Janelle Monáe (Hidden Figures), Dave Bautista, Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom Jr. (Hamilton), Kate Hudson (Almost Famous), Jessica Henwick (Iron Fist), and Madelyn Cline (Outer Banks).
Rian Johnson closed out one of the biggest deals in Netflix history for his Knives Out sequels. The deal to put the second and third movies under the streaming platform’s umbrella came to a close at around $400 million.
