Riot Games has been on fire with their recent League of Legends (or Runeterraverse, if you will) news and announcements. Not only have their games been receiving heaps of updates, but the team recently debuted the first three episodes of their new in-universe show Arcane. Receiving much praise, the team is showing no sign of stopping, and today is no different. Through Riot Games’ indie publishing label, Riot Forge, the team has announced Hextech Mayhem, a rhythm runner set to release one week from today on November 16. You can check out the first trailer below.
Hextech Mayhem follows the story of hextech explosives master (and slight maniac) Ziggs as he rampages through the streets of Piltover and causes all sorts of havoc. As the Steam page best describes the gameplay:
Bomb, bounce, and bop to the beat of the music to avoid obstacles, disarm enemies, and light fuses to achieve maximum chaos. Cause musical mayhem while outrunning no-fun-allowed Heimerdinger in your quest to build the greatest bomb the world has ever seen!
Use the Freestyle Mayhem System to create spontaneous blasts and grab bonus points… all while dodging the fun police and showing them what they’re really missing.”
Now, if you’d told me yesterday that we’d be waking up to a rhythm runner set in the League of Legends universe, I would’ve called you a fool. Yet, here we are. While it does look a bit ridiculous, that’s somewhat what the team is going for. You don’t make a game centered entirely around a crazy explosives expert and expect something normal, do you? Either way, with just a week away from the game’s release, we won’t have to wait long to see how to fares.
Riot Games’ Hextech Mayhem releases on November 16 for PC and Nintendo Switch. There’s also a release coming soon for Netflix, though how exactly that works is unclear.
