Rumor has it that Jason Momoa will return to his role as Duncan Idaho in Dune: Messiah. While Momoa’s casting is not yet confirmed, respected leaker Jeff Sneider assured the world that he’d be back. This news comes in accordance with the source material, which also sees Duncan Idaho return through questionable circumstances. If true, Momoa’s casting can promise fans a faithful adaptation of several of Messiah‘s strangest elements.
Jason Momoa Will Likely Return in Dune: Messiah

Jason Momoa starred as Duncan Idaho in Dune: Part One, but his character lost his life in a brutal struggle. He’s not in the sequel, but he’s likely to appear in the upcoming third entry. Dune: Messiah will see the character return with the original actor in tow. Momoa joined the first entry way back in 2019. The massive ensemble cast included half of Hollywood, but Momoa still managed to stand out. If the rumors are believable, Dune: Messiah will feature Momoa’s return to the franchise in the familiar role. Fans who only watch the movies might not see his comeback coming, but the readers in the audience already expected to see his name. Director Denis Villeneuve set out to adapt the legendary sequel, Dune: Messiah, as the end of his trilogy. While Momoa will likely return, he won’t technically play Duncan Idaho.
If Momoa does make it back, he’ll portray a character called Hayt, a clone of Duncan Idaho. Messiah takes place shortly after Paul Atreides conquered the galaxy in Dune. It depicts many attempts to depose him after the universal holy war he starts. One such attempt involves gifting him with Hayt, a clone of his fallen friend. A new galactic power called the Bene Tleilax creates Hayt and his fellow ghola clones. Growing artificial human beings with the DNA of dead folks becomes a common theme throughout the sequels. Hayt is also a love interest for Alia Atreides, Paul’s little sister who Anya Taylor-Joy briefly portrayed. The character plays a massive role in Messiah and it would be bizarre to hear that Jason Momoa wouldn’t take on the part.
Jason Momoa’s rumored return to Dune should come as no surprise to fans of the franchise. Duncan Idaho may have died in the first film, but he’s a critical part of the third entry. Even if he isn’t on the cast list just yet, we should all expect to see Momoa back in the Fremen suit when Dune: Messiah comes to theaters.
