This article is over 5 years old and may contain outdated information.

It’s been a while since we last heard anything about Saints Row V. And as we are nearing another big announcement event, the PlayStation 5 Showcase, Saints Row V leak rumor suddenly pops up on the internet as well. This time around the rumor came from the infamous imageboard 4chan. As usual, always take these leaks with a truckload of salt. Especially since a well-known industry member shinobi602 has debunked the rumor over in ResetEra… as I’m finishing this article.

Oh well, even if it’s turn out to be fake, at the very least, it will hype us for the eventual official Saints Row V reveal, right? Let’s see what an anonymous leaker has in store for us this time.

Saints Row V Rumor

Saints Row V Leaked Plot

According to the post, Saints Row V will continue where Saints Row 3 ends. Saints Row 4 and Gat Out of Hell are “retconned” as an in-universe TV show. Instead of playing as The Boss again, this time around, you play as a new protagonist with a new cast to support you as you go against the Saints because they have become an evil corporate empire like Ultor. Gat’s death is mentioned as part of the reason why the Saints became soulless corporate bullies. The Boss now wears a mask that makes their voice muffled and to make to their look “open to interpretation.”

But the “old Saints” aren’t the only enemy; other gangs are there as well. One of them is a motorcycle gang called The Wolf Pack. And at some point in the story, you can ally with a gang to go against the Saints. The game has a thing going on where it feels like you’re seeing the old Saints from the perspective of an average NPC. They never cared about hurting innocent people, so the game kinds of builds up how the Saints will turn as an evil gang. The tone is a “middle ground between 1, 2, and 3“, so less goofy and a bit more grounded. There are also no superpowers anymore.

Later in the thread, another anonymous post (unconfirmed whether it’s the original poster or not) wrote that later in the game, you would be able to recruit Kinzie, who has chosen to distance herself from the Saints. Meanwhile, Pierce and Josh Birk, who is in the middle of shooting a “zombie film that needs some help with some violent scenes” overseas, have no idea what’s going on in Stilwater will appear either in a DLC or after the game ends.

Saints Row V Gameplay Element

The game is set in a “massively expanded” Stilwater that has way more countryside and new islands. It won’t have destructible environments, but the physics engine is improved. For example, the anonymous poster wrote that ragdolls weren’t floaty anymore like in Saints Row 4, and driving felt close to GTA V.

They also listed some “changes” for the game’s customization options:

  • Character customization is similar to Saints Row 2.
  • Sliders are available for each body part.
  • Genital mosaic censorship is changed to a black bar that has swinging physics.
  • Weapon customization isn’t linear anymore like in Saints Row 4; you can put on different scopes and camos and switch between ammo types.

In the multiplayer department, Saints Row V might implement a four-player co-op. And, the biggest red flag that sounds too good to be true: the online multiplayer will be “32-player freeroam gang warfare” with activities like Deathmatch activating dynamically in the world. The anonymous poster claimed that,

“[…] You can drive around the map and then get a pop up from the game that invites you and the rest of the players to participate in Deathmatch. If your gang wins Deathmatch, you’ll gain small territory as part of a bigger region in this particular lobby. This won’t be global, so each lobby will have different territories controlled by different gangs.”

Yeah, the multiplayer part sounds a bit too outlandish, don’t you think? Not to mention I don’t think Volition will dispose of Gat again. Not just because he’s a fan-favorite that will help to pull sales, but a part of the developer team never liked the idea in the first place. Well, drop by in the comments and tell us what you think of this supposed leak.
