Chandler Riggs, best known as Carl Grimes in The Walking Dead, has officially joined Breakup Season, a new holiday-themed dramedy hailing from Out of Focus director H. Nelson Tracey. Recently cast alongside Molly’s Game star Samantha Isler, Chandler Riggs will be joining previously-cast Breakup Season stars James Urbaniak, Jacob Wysocki, Brook Hogan, Carly Stewart, and Kailey Rhodes.
Breakup Season will star Chandler Riggs as a currently unnamed young man who takes his girlfriend (Samantha Isler) home to his rural Oregon hometown for the holidays to meet his family for the first time, but the introduction doesn’t go as he planned. Not much is known about the wider plot of the film or character details, but it has been confirmed that Breakup Season will be produced by Stephen Mastrocola, Rafi Jacobs, Liana Montemayor, and Christopher Jennings alongside H. Nelson Tracey. The film is scheduled to begin production in La Grande, Oregon, which was chosen by Tracey after he immediately saw its “cinematic potential” years ago, according to Deadline.
“I first visited La Grande, Oregon in the fall of 2019 for the annual Eastern Oregon Film Festival,” he said. “I immediately saw the Grande Ronde Valley as having untapped cinematic potential, and shortly thereafter began developing a project tailor-made for this location. Pairing a cast this strong with a spectacular and unique setting will create the cinematic magic that makes us all love film.”
‘The Walking Dead’ Star Chandler Riggs Joins ‘Breakup Season’
Chandler Riggs is best known as Carl Grimes in AMC‘s hit series The Walking Dead. He appeared as the son of Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Lori Grimes for eight seasons between 2010 and 2018 before departing the role, though he would later return in an unnamed role as a farmer in the later seasons of the show. Riggs would later star as Patrick “PJ” Nelson in A Million Little Things, acting alongside David Giuntoli, Lizzy Greene, and Allison Miller, among others, in the Hulu series.
Samantha Isler, who joins H. Nelson Tracey’s Breakup Season as Rigg’s girlfriend, has most recently appeared alongside Idris Elba as a teenage version of professional skier-turned-FBI target Molly Bloom in the 2017 thriller Molly’s Game, Kielyr in Captain Fantastic (2016), and a teenage version of Chuck’s sister Amara in the CW’s Supernatural (2015).
Breakup Season, starring Chandler Riggs and Samantha Isler, will begin production later this month in Oregon. A release date for the film has not been announced yet, and more details on the plot and characters will likely become available as production continues.
