Being a non-linear game, Baldur’s Gate 3 offers players a lot of choices that will more or less affect the plot of the game. Previously, you thought destroying or saving the Druid Grove was a big decision, but this is unimportant compared to what awaits you at the end of Act 3. After completing the assault on Moonrise Towers and you head to the next city, you will meet the Emperor. Of course, most players will immediately choose to kill the enemy, but not everything is so simple. So, should you help or attack the Emperor in Baldur’s Gate 3? Below you will find the answer.
What Happens if You Help the Emperor in BG3 – Best Choice
(Updated on October 7, 2024 – updated links and format)
First, we advise you to side with Emperor and help him and his Intellect Devourers defeat the enemy Githyanki. It seems illogical because you always thought he was an enemy, but it is not. It was the Emperor who was the voice in your head and the Guardian who gave you advice, helped, and suggested that you accept the power of Illithid in Baldur’s Gate 3. He is your friend and was also once an adventurer who was unfortunate enough to get a tadpole in the eye. So by helping him in this battle, you will make the right decision.
Together, you can defeat the Githyanki hostiles, after which you will receive an Astral-Touched Tadpole. While it sounds scary, you won’t lose your identity but become a half-illithid hybrid. It will allow you to continue the game and get the undeniably powerful abilities of Illithid. But you can also choose the second and darker option.
What Happens if You Attack the Emperor in BG3
If you are still firmly convinced that Emperor is your enemy, you can kill him. But in this case, your adventures will come to an end. After all, besides giving you advice during the adventure, the Guardian (Emperor) also stopped the Tadpole activity in your head. And since he can no longer do this because of death, you will become a new Illithid almost immediately after the battle.

Your character’s personality will disappear, you will become only a controlled puppet of a higher power, and you will see the final cutscene. It is just one of the possible endings for your gameplay, so you can choose this one if you want to finish the game. Otherwise, it’s best to help the Emperor and continue your travels.
