Simone Biles knows who her biggest fan is (aside from herself of course) as she pays tribute to her husband Johnathan Owens with new tattoos. The 27-year-old won over the world just weeks back with her outstanding performance at the Paris 2024 Olympics which solidified her claim to the title of the world’s best gymnast. However, the one fan that mattered most to her remains her husband, who admittedly had his eyes set on her even before discovering her list of medals and titles.
Simone, who embarked on her Gold Over America post-Olympic tour this month took time out to have herself tatted up ahead of the big climax. While visiting Phoenix this week, she had a brief stop at Syzygy Precision Tattooing for a session with famed tattoo artist Sydney Smith. Simone Biles debuted 2 new tattoos, each holding a special significance.
The first tattoo featured a tiny “J” etched into the ring finger of her left hand, right below her fingernails. Notably, the conspicuous letter is especially symbolic as it represents the initial letter of her husband’s first name, Johnathan. Although Simone Biles has yet to discuss the significance of the new tattoo, “a nod to Johnathan Owens” remains the best guess.
Fans Think Simone Biles’ 90-Minute Session Was Worthwhile
The athlete sat through a second ink, this time inscribing the words, “MADE IN HEAVEN” behind her neck in capital letters. While the idea behind this second ink remains a mystery, it follows Simone Biles’ usual pull towards inking sentimental phrases on her skin. The famed tattooist, who completed both tattoos under a 90-minute window discussed her experience working with Simone Biles, saying,
“It was a great experience, but I really treat all of my clients the same. It’s always a good time getting to do what I love every day.”
Despite her attempt to downplay the experience, fans went off the roof upon discovering the talented hands behind Simone Biles’ new tattoos. Reacting to a photo of the new ink shared by Sydney on Instagram, several netizens voiced their excitement, declaring no one else was better suited for the job. Referring to the collaboration, one fan wrote,
“An icon tattooing an icon.”
Another shared,
“Two angels united.”
A third commenter added,
“This is so iconic.”
Simone Biles’ new set of tattoos joins her ever-growing collection. Prior to her iconic union with Sydney Smith to create her new tats, the artistic gymnast already boasted of at least seven inks. Some of the most obvious ones include her butterfly hand tattoos, her “Golden” tattoo located on her inner left wrist, a “1997” tattoo symbolizing her birth year, and her “And still I rise” tattoo located on her collarbone, a reminder of the Maya Angelou poem of the same name.

While the “444” tattoo is located on a part of her body not visible to the public, Simone Biles once explained the meaning behind it, saying it represented “4better, 4worse, 4ever.” Unsurprisingly, Simone Biles’ husband has a matching tattoo, symbolizing their undying love for each other.
