As with all emerging technologies no one can quite predict what applications Virtual Reality will be used for until some mad scientist type proposes it. Six Flags Over Texas has done just that and created a “4d” experience unlike anything anyone who doesn’t happen to own a large amount of roller coaster rides might have been able to conceive of; they have created a VR game that you play while on an actual physical roller coaster.
Park patrons riding the Shockwave roller coaster are able to strap on a Samsung Gear VR headset and are transported to the virtual reality experience known as The New Revolution. This is the first roller coaster in North America to add VR to its repertoire.

The New Revolution is not in any way a passive experience; it is a fully functional game. As participants experience the ride they are taken to the cockpit of a fighter jet and tasked with saving a crumbling city from an aggressive alien menace by blowing them to smithereens.
This unique take on VR is open to Six Flags Over Texas season pass holders now through March 20. It opens to the general public on March 26.
Do you think that people will be too distracted by the sensation of being flung around on a roller coaster to focus on the “game” aspect of The New Revolution? Is getting to experience this ride now your soul calling in life? Is this your first time hearing about the existence of roller coasters?
