A decade after the launch of Smite, Titan Forge Games has announced Smite 2 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The sequel will serve as a reworked and rebuilt version of the original MOBA, but now in Unreal Engine 5. Detailed on the game’s official Twitter, Smite 2 will bring the third-person action-focused MOBA game up to modern standards, with graphics and gameplay built from the ground up. Unlike some other recent sequels like Overwatch 2, the original Smite will continue to remain live after the launch of Smite 2, although it will stop getting major updates. Smite 2 will not feature all of the over 100 playable gods at launch, but will eventually. As for the many cosmetics players have purchased in Smite, those won’t carry over.
Paid Skins Won’t Carry Over To Smite 2
In addition to Smite 2 being announced, Titan Forge Games has revealed what is happening to the many paid cosmetics in Smite. The short answer is that paid skins won’t carry over from Smite to Smite 2. Titan Forge Games said (via VGC) that porting skins from Unreal Engine 3 to 5 takes about two months of work and moving the over 1,600 skins in-game would take 246 years to port.
While long-time players may find this upsetting, Titan Forge Games is offering some make goods. First is that Smite 2 will feature Legacy Gems, which players will receive for every Gem (the premium currency in Smite) spent in the original game, at a 1:1 ratio. These Legacy Gems can be used to pay for 50% of new premium skins in Smite 2. There will also be a Divine Legacy event, which the developer said will reward players for their time spent in the original game with cosmetics for both Smite and Smite 2. All new skins in Smite moving forward will be compatible with Smite 2.
A closed Alpha is coming for Smite 2 sometime in the spring, which you can sign up for on the game’s official website. The sequel will rework many of the items in-game, including the removal of Relics. Items will no longer be split into Magical and Physical, with any god able to purchase any item in-game, creating more variety in builds.
Smite 2 has been announced for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
