While vacationing in Florida, a family on their way into Disney’s Animal Kingdom had their fun put on hold after a few attendees lost their purses. The family then immediately became the #1 suspect in a case of theft.
Posted by TikTok user Foreverbusi, Pat, the interaction quickly turned uncomfortable and awkward. On TikTok he writes: “Accused of stealing purses at Disney World ‘Sometimes it sucks being black but I wouldn’t have it any other way.’”
In Pat’s TikTok video, which started off as a sort of vlog of their Disney’s Animal Kingdom vacation, a couple of women are seen getting pictures taken. The two women are then speaking to Pat and his family, asking if they saw a pair of purses. They did not and are preparing to leave.
Meanwhile, one of the attendees is standing there staring at the family, which Pat reads as a “prejudice stare” and gets the feeling she wants to “call the cops.” Despite Pat’s family stating they didn’t see purses, the Disney-goer is making no move to contact security.
Just as Pat and his family are on their way to leave, the lady then approaches them, asking if they’re “sure” they didn’t put the purses in their bag. They say no and even offer her the chance to check herself, but before she can, a Disney employee saves the day by informing her that staff found the bag.
Commenters on Pat’s TikTok video dragged the accusers online
Viewers weren’t happy with how Pat and his family were treated, especially with how the one Disney’s Animal Kingdom attendee deceptively accused them of stealing her purse. Not to mention many of the commenters saw this as a moment of racism on the accuser’s part.
TikTok user Blkmermaid was fed up with black people letting these interactions slide. “We have a habit of saying it’s ok when they apologize when in fact it’s not ok!” Others in the thread agreed, insisting Pat was “too nice” to the lady.
Another TikTok user, Mome30_, was on the same wavelength. They called out the attendee, noting that she “straight up accused” Pat and his family of stealing by asking if they were sure they didn’t put it in their bags. Spin it how you want, but that’s an accusation! “We cannot let stuff like this slide,” Mome30_ wrote.
One viewer, Msmonami29, brought up a curious detail: “They didn’t go up to anyone else asking and ‘making sure’ 😒😒😒.” Pat liked the comment. Another user added to the thread, writing, “It’s always us they accuse.”
Adding to that, there are security cameras at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Why not start there? It would’ve been a completely different story if the woman had simply asked whether the family had seen the missing purses. Instead, she turned the situation into a deeply uncomfortable interaction by accusing a black family of theft, raising troubling questions about racial profiling.
