Is there a memo going around telling adults to start sucking on pacifiers in public? Several videos showing people doing just that have been circulating online, and a man in Florida has now caught people’s attention for the same reason. He was filmed hanging around outside a bank in Gainesville this week with a pacifier in his mouth and an unkempt appearance.
The incident reportedly happened around 9 a.m. outside a Florida Credit Union branch in Butler Plaza. A woman recorded the man wandering near the building while sucking on what appeared to be a blue pacifier.
He wore a gray long-sleeved shirt, loose black pants, and sneakers. He also had on a small hair clip. His pants were so loose that they would occasionally slip down, prompting him to pull them back up and hold them in place.
According to the woman who recorded him, the man did not behave aggressively toward customers entering or leaving the bank. She noted that he interacted with a few customers, including her boyfriend, whom he asked for money.
She also claimed that employees at the bank appeared to ignore the man when they came outside rather than calling security.
After the clip, which lasted less than a minute, was posted to TikTok, it raised concerns among viewers who found the man’s behavior strange.
One commenter accused him of being “an adult pervert.” Someone else claimed he was suffering from “mental illness.” Another asked about the bank’s location, saying they wanted to “stay away.” A fourth added, “Oh ya I don’t need no money today,” apparently put off by the man’s presence outside the bank.
One person expressed surprise that the man had been allowed to remain outside the building. “Usually have armed security right inside. I’m surprised they allowed him loitering there.”
Some people, however, felt sympathetic toward the man. A viewer remarked, “Thats someone’s baby.” Another agreed, writing, “Ts sad.”
The reason for the man’s behavior remains unknown. Although some viewers speculated about his mental health, there is no information confirming that he has a mental health condition.
The woman who shared the clip revealed in the comments that this was not her first encounter with him. She claimed she had previously seen him walking into traffic while bouncing a basketball. However, she did not mention whether he was also using a pacifier at the time.
