The mayoral race of Los Angeles, California, is reaching its climax, and while some candidates are looking for ways to stay in the spotlight, some can’t seem to leave it, even if it is for some alleged wrong reasons. Not long ago, people started realizing that some merchandise from Pratt’s campaign could be falling into copyright infringement, at least according to some citizens. Some claim that some hats look extremely similar to football teams and other well-known brands. People have expressed their concern and called out the candidate, as this could be a potential issue for his campaign.

The note by SFGate, shared on the Los Angeles subreddit, talks about Spencer Pratt using designs that closely resemble some brands, especially some sports teams in California, for his merchandise. According to the note, people have spotted Pratt wearing hats that share the design, font, and even color palette of some teams, such as the Los Angeles Lakers, Rams, and Dodgers.

While some people have not seen this as a bad action from the candidate, others have started questioning those behind Pratt’s design team, but most importantly, the sports team. Since many residents are seeing Pratt using designs from sports teams in the city, some believe that this looks wrong, as it may cause a misunderstanding, leading people to believe the teams are endorsing Pratt. Others, however, also believe this is easily a copyright infringement.

In any case, Redditors didn’t hold back in voicing their concern and anger, quickly accusing the former Hollywood star of copyright infringement.

While these are all allegations so far, people agree that his hats have designs that border on copyright infringement, and while many accused the candidate, others believe this is a thing that many conservatives do.

“Nothing is more authentically on-brand for today’s conservatives like stealing the logo of a local team but stupidly using the colors for their main division rival.“

“Conservatives don’t respect intellectual property rights; this tracks.“

Others mention that, while it may be a parody, especially with some of the AI videos he’s uploaded, there could be room for certain brands to send a cease and desist order.

“A version of this exact thing happened with the Zohran campaign in New York City, and culminated in the Knicks sending his campaign a cease and desist notice.“

In the end, Pratt hasn’t responded to these allegations, but potential voters think he should stop using easily recognizable brands and do something more original for his campaign.
